Our goal is to document, in a committed and
honest way, the life and death of Vladimir
Roslik, and how it affected his community,
giving voice to the people of San Javier, who
were victims of harassment and violence, and
who now face the challenge of reestablishing
their cultural identity in an increasingly
homogenous world.
The documentary is based on a thorough
investigation, including extensive newspaper
research, interviews, images from press
archives, and the review of official records
and sources. However, it will not be a
biography in the traditional sense, and
neither will it be a mere collection of police
data. The landscape that surrounds the town,
its architecture, its songs and traditions
also provide the raw material for this movie.
These events make us realize that the world is
still full of xenophobic actions; they make us
reflect on what it means to be foreign when
you are far away from your home, on the
universal nature of persecutions, and on our
own vulnerability to the arrogance of power.
The story of Roslik, his family and his
community is a story of almost epic
proportions, in a town that is a mere five
hours away from the capital. A story that we
cannot afford to forget. |
